Chandler sets down a cup of coffee in front of me, and I almost want to cry at how perfect it looks and how amazing it smells—that’s what two hours of sleep will do to you.

“You look like hell, love,” he says.

“Thanks,” I grumble as I lift the coffee to my lips. It only takes a sip for me to know it isn’t made from the beans I ordered. Chandler smirks at the narrowed glare I send his way, because he knows I’m going to want them. Cost be damned.

“New beans I’ve been wanting to try. Michael says they all taste the same after a while, but I have to disagree,” he says, and I nod in agreement. I don’t understand how someone can say that wine has so many flavors that it’s a delight every time he drinks it, but all coffee tastes the same.

My eyes roam around the bakery. It honestly surprises me every time I see the freshly painted walls or the new pieces of furniture. The periwinkle-blue chairs look so much more inviting with their soft cushions. White wooden tables replace the old vinyl ones, complimenting the blue as the clouds do the sky. The entire place gleams like a diamond ring underneath the new track lights that illuminate the once dark corners. Who would have thought that with just a few alterations, this place could look brand-spanking-new?

“We’ve just finished loading the old cases and machines into the truck, and we’ll get rid of them on the way back to the warehouse. Are you sure there’s nothing else I can help you with?” Chandler asks.

I shake my head. “You’ve already helped me more than you needed to. And you really didn’t have to get your guys to install everything today, but I super love you for doing it.”

Even though I feel like I haven’t slept in months, it’s really only been a week since I came home. But so much has changed that it feels like so much longer. With a little redecorating and a chalkboard on the wall behind the counter, the bakery has become a boutique. But there’s one more thing I need to work on to get this place back on the map.

“I take it now all of this has been done, you’re going to be in the kitchen?” Chandler asks, and my jaw drops. How does he do that?

“I’ve known you for years, Paige. Do you honestly think I don’t know how your mind works? Now that you’ve redone the inside, you want to match the goods with the feel of this place. And I’m assuming you’ve already got some ideas.”

I don’t say anything, only stare.

He laughs and winks. “You did learn from the best.”

“You can be super creepy with your mind reading at times, but yeah, now the inside is looking awesome and I have Mr. White and his crew coming to paint the outside, I’m going to start working on adding some flair to the goods.”

Jasmine’s face pops into my mind, and I wince at our frosty interactions.
